Managing Themes

This page explains how to manages themes. 


  • If you want to modify a plugin theme you first have to copy it, and then modify the copy.

Working with Themes

To start working with themes select the Theme under the Scroll Viewport in the Confluence Administration.

Creating a Theme

To start a Theme from scratch:

  1. Choose the cog icon at top right of the screen, then choose Add-ons.

  2. Choose Viewports in the left hand panel.

  3. Click on Create Viewport.

  4. To create a theme from scratch click start from scratch. 

  5. Enter following information.
    1. The name of the new theme.
    2. Under the Content Tab
      • The Space Key, which binds the Confluences space with the theme.
      • Select the content types for this viewport:
        • Pages – the viewport will contain the pages
        • Blog Posts – the viewport will contain the blog posts
    3. Under the URL Tab
      • Enter the path prefix of this viewport, this path prefix is relative to the base URL of Confluence.
    4. Under the Permissions Tab
      • Select if you want to restrict access to Confluence UI.

  6. Click Save to save the viewport.
    • You can open the viewport on a new browser tab by clicking on Open in New Tab.

Copying or Deleting a Theme

To create a copy of a theme just select Copy in the configuration screen. To delete a theme just click on Delete. Themes are were installed through a plugin can't be deleted through this method. 

Editing a Theme

Viewport administrators can edit a theme using the Scroll Viewport Theme Editor. To access the editor.

a. In the Themes section select Edit for the theme that you want to modify.

b. In the Viewport Configuration screen, select the  Icon and then click on Edit.

This will start the Scroll Viewport Theme Editor.

Installing via Plugin-Manager

As first option, you can install a Style-Resource by using the Plugin-Manager provided by Confluence.

To install a plugin theme via the Plugin-Manager:

  1. Click the cog icon at top right of the screen and select Confluence Admin.
    The Administration Console is displayed.
  2. In the Atlassian Marketplace section, click Manage Add-ons.
  3. Click Upload Add-on and select the JAR-file containing the Style-Resource.
  4. Click Upload.

On the next page you should see a list containing containing your recently installed Style-Resource. This should look like this screen:
