Version a Document That Contains Included Content

Within Confluence, versioning can be a challenge with pages that contain Include Page or Excerpt Include macros.

Versioning is difficult because an Include Page and Excerpt Include macro dynamically displays the content of one page inside another.

In addition, page revisions (page versions) in Confluence do not include the content of the Include Page or Excerpt Include macro. As a result, you will always see the latest revision of the included page or excerpt content in all versions of your document.

With Scroll Documents, however, you can effectively version pages that contain Include Page or Excerpt Include macros. The new version of your document will contain a snapshot of the content of the included page or excerpt. Any new changes you make to the included page or excerpt will only reflect in the Working version of the document.

How to Preserve Included Pages as Static Content in a Version

Resolve Include Page and Excerpt Include macros permanently using the option "Resolve Include Page and Excerpt Include macros", making their content a permanent part of the version. Note that it only works for Include Page and Excerpt Include macros that reference pages outside of the document.

Avoid including pages with page layouts in your Scroll Document. When content from an external page is included, the layouts will be removed if the resolve option is enabled, potentially causing content to shift around.

To resolve the Include Page and Excerpt Include macros while saving a version, use the following steps:

1. While saving a version, on the New version dialog, click on the Advanced tab.

2. Ensure Resolve Include Page and Excerpt Include macros is selected.
   

   

3. Click Save.
