You can fine-tune your template's appearance using the visual editor on the Document Sections tab.
Edit the page layout
The Content document section contains an extra element that visualizes where your Confluence content will be exported.
Using the menu above the page editor, you can change the section name, border dimensions, page margins, and set odd and even pages to have different layouts.
Using the header, content and footer menus to the left of the page editor, you can edit the elements' size and layout, and add a border.
Create a custom background
You can apply a custom background to the current section by clicking the Edit Background button in the top-right corner of the screen.
You can apply a full-page single-color background, use an image as a background, or use a combination of both (an image on a full-color background).
Set a single-color background
To give the section a full-page single-color background, click on #ffffff on the first line of the menu. This opens a picker where you can select the background color:
You can define the background color using either the RGBa, HEX, or HSLa color models – switch between them using the arrows at the bottom-right of the menu.
Use an image as a background
To use an image as a background, click the blank space next to Image:
Once you have selected and uploaded a background image, you can adjust its size, position, and margin.
Add static content
You can add static content (text and images) to any content box in your template, by simply clicking on the box and using the editor that appears. Adding images is easy – click the insert image button and upload by drag and drop.
If you want to add text with a custom typeface, you first have to create a custom text style in the Styles tab, and then apply that style to the text.
Besides static content, you can also add placeholders. Placeholders reference metadata, and insert this metadata into content boxes.

Enable different first page for content section
If you need your exported content to start on a page that has a different layout to the rest of the document, you can add a first page to your template.
To do this, simply remove the Title and TOC sections by clicking on the X icon. In the Content section, click on the cog icon and select Enable different first page:
You can then navigate to the First Page tab to customize the layout for the first page of your export. In the Even & Odd pages tab you can customize the layout for the subsequent pages of your export.
