What Happens to Duplicate Page Titles During Migration to Scroll Documents?

This article will explain what happens to your duplicate page titles when migrating from Scroll Versions to Scroll Documents.

How Duplicate Page Titles Are Migrated

When using Scroll Versions in a space, you have the ability to create duplicate page titles by disconnecting the displayed page title from the page URL. This allows you to change the page title without affecting the URL. As a result, you can have multiple pages with the same title.

During the migration to Scroll Documents, a new space is created as a copy of the original Scroll Versions managed space. Each page from the original space will be migrated to the new space along with its displayed page title.

If two or more pages share the same title – with the help of the duplicate page title feature - the duplicate page title is stored as Scroll Page Title and displayed in exports created with our Scroll Exporters or when published with Scroll Viewport.

In Confluence the first page will retain its original title, while subsequent pages will have a number appended to differentiate them.

For example, let's consider a page tree where all three child pages have the same page title (achieved through Scroll Versions' Duplicate page title feature). After migrating to Scroll Documents, the first three child pages will retain their page titles (as they were created first), while the last three will have a number added to them:

The additional numbers can be manually removed after the migration, but it is also possible to address this before migrating to Scroll Documents. For more information, see: How can I migrate a Space with Duplicate Page Titles?

Work with Duplicate Page Titles within Confluence

If you still wish to work with duplicate page titles within the same space, you can utilize the Scroll Documents version prefix feature. This enables you to differentiate pages with similar titles by adding a prefix to the version. To learn more about this feature, we recommend reading the article: Edit Version Prefix
