How Do I Transfer a Document to a New Confluence Instance?

The answer to this question depends on the type of migration you are performing.

Confluence Server/Data Center to Cloud

If you are migrating from a Confluence Server or Data Center instance to Confluence Cloud, you must use the Atlassian Migration Assistant. The process is described in detail in this article:

Server/Data Center to Data Center

For Server-to-Data center, or Data center-to-Data center migrations, you must use XML exports of your spaces:

  1. Create XML exports of your spaces.

    1. Follow Atlassian's documentation to do this: Export Content to Word, PDF, HTML and XML

  1. Ensure Scroll Documents is installed (and its extension apps, if you are also using them) on your new instance.

  2. Import the spaces.

    1. For steps on how to import a space, see Atlassian’s documentation: Restore a Space or multiple Spaces

We recommend starting with a few test spaces to ensure the export and import works as expected.
