Customize the Order of Document Versions

By default, your document's versions are listed in an alphanumerical order. With custom version ordering, you can rearrange them to match the order that makes most sense for your readers, for example, listing the current release first, followed by older ones.

The custom order is reflected in two places:

  • The version picker in the Scroll toolbar in Confluence.

  • The version picker on your published Scroll Sites.

This feature is in beta. Custom version ordering is still being developed and refined. If you have feedback, let us know through our support channel 🫶

Before you start

To use custom version ordering, you'll need:

  • Access to the Confluence administration section to enable the beta feature.

  • You must be a space admin or the document owner to enable custom ordering for your document.

Enable the Beta Feature

Custom version ordering is a beta feature that your Confluence admin needs to enable before it's available in your documents. To enable it, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Confluence administration section.

  2. Click Apps.

  3. Find Scroll Content Manager Settings.

  4. Under Beta features, add the following beta code: beta.version-ordering.mK4pR9xL

  5. Click Save.

The feature is now available for use in your documents.

Enable Custom Ordering for a Scroll Document

Once the beta feature is enabled, you can turn on custom version ordering for individual Scroll documents. To enable it for a document, follow these steps:

  1. Open the space containing the document.

  2. Click Scroll Content Manager in the Confluence sidebar.

  3. Select the relevant document.

  4. Click Settings.

  5. Under the General tab, toggle on Allow version ordering.

Custom ordering is now enabled for this document.

Change the Version Order

To rearrange the versions of your document, follow these steps:

  1. In your document, click Versions to open the version list.

  2. Drag and drop a version to a new position in the list.

The new order appears immediately in the version picker in the Scroll toolbar in Confluence. On your published Scroll Sites, the order updates after the next content change on any page in the site, editing any page triggers the update.

The Working version stays on top. You can reorder all other versions, but the Working version always remains at the top of the list, since it represents your in-progress work.
