Using custom templates allows you to export Confluence content as PDFs and have full control over the content's look and feel.
Before you start creating custom templates, check out the PDF Template Library to see what's possible for your Confluence exports. 📚 To the Template Library →
Users can manage templates in two locations:
-
Confluence Admins can manage default and global templates on the global template management screen at General configuration > Scroll PDF Exporter > Templates.
-
Space Admins can manage all available templates for a particular space by navigating to that space and clicking Space tools > Apps > Scroll PDF Exporter:
The Type column displays the template type. Scroll PDF Exporter supports four template types:
|
Template Type |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Default template |
Scroll PDF Exporter includes default templates. You can use them in all spaces and hide them with advanced plugin properties, but you can't edit or delete them. |
|
Global template |
You can use global templates in all spaces. Confluence Admins can create, edit, and delete them on the global template management screen. |
|
Space template |
You can only use a space template in the space where you created it. The Space Admin who created a space template can edit or delete it, and so can all Confluence Admins. |
In the Actions column, you can carry out several actions to manage templates:
|

Edit |
Confluence Admins can edit all space, and global templates. Space Admins can edit the space templates they created. |

|

Delete |
Confluence Admins can delete all space and deprecated templates. Space Admins can delete the space templates they created and all deprecated templates. |
Edit Template Visibility
In the Visibility column, admins can choose whether users see a template in the export dialog.
Visibility only affects the export dialog
Setting a template to invisible only hides it from the export dialog. It does not restrict access to the template. Invisible templates:
-
Remain accessible via the REST API and other integrations.
-
Continue to appear in other parts of the user interface (e.g. template list)
-
Users can still copy or download them from the template list and reuse them elsewhere.
Use visibility to declutter the export dialog for end users, not as an access control or security mechanism.
Import a Template
Import as global template
Confluence Admins can upload templates as global templates by clicking General configuration > Scroll PDF Exporter > Templates > + New Template > Upload.
Import as space template
To import a downloaded template file as a space template, open the relevant space, and click Space tools > Add-ons > Scroll PDF Exporter > + New Template > Upload
Create a Template
Space Admins can create a new space template by clicking the + New Template button on the space templates screen and then selecting Create new. Confluence Admins can create global templates by clicking the + New Template button on the global template administration menu.
