Backbone Work Sync 5.22.0

March 2026

Backbone Work Sync 5.22.0 is now available. This release includes the syncing of issue and epic links across projects.

Backbone has been reliably syncing issues and related Jira data across instances. However, issue links and epic links were not included until now.

With this release, issue links and epic links are now also synced along with the corresponding work items. This ensures you retain the full context of your work, even when collaborating across multiple projects and instances.

How does it work?

Let’s look at an example with two Jira instances, each containing multiple projects:

  • Instance 1: Project A and Project B

  • Instance 2: Project X and Project Z

You configure syncing as follows:

  • Project A → Project X

  • Project B → Project Z

Now, imagine issue A-1 in Project A is linked to issue B-1 in Project B.

After syncing:

  • A-1 is synced to X-1

  • B-1 is synced to Z-1

  • New: X-1 is automatically linked to Z-1

What you need to do

Want to use this new functionality? Here’s what you need to know:

Already syncing issue links or epic links?
There’s nothing you need to do. Cross-project syncing works automatically.

Want to start using it?
Add issue links and epic links to your field mapping in the sync configuration.
