Saving a version, publishing to Confluence, and creating a translation all copy or update pages in your document. If you can't edit some of these pages, Scroll Content Manager lists them so you can fix their restrictions in one go.
This guide shows you how to find the pages that block the operation, fix their restrictions, and continue.
Symptoms
When you save a version, publish a version to Confluence, or create a translation, the dialog shows this message:
You can't edit N pages in this version
The Save, Publish, Export or Import button stays disabled while the message is shown.
Possible Causes
Not enough user permissions. Restrictions stop you from editing pages that the operation needs to update:
-
Saving a version and creating a translation only update pages in the source version that don't have a Scroll Page ID yet, to assign one. Pages that already have a Scroll Page ID don't block you, even if you can only view them.
-
Publishing to Confluence needs edit rights for every page in the version.
The restrictions can come from two places:
-
Version restrictions: Someone limited who can edit pages in this version, or made the version read-only, in Scroll Content Manager. Version restrictions apply to every page in the version, so every affected page is usually listed.
-
Page restrictions: Individual pages are restricted in Confluence.
Troubleshooting Steps
To fix the issue, follow the steps below:
-
In the message, click Show pages (N).
-
The dialog switches to Pages you can't edit (N). Each page appears in document order with its location in the document.
-
-
Check the version restrictions first, especially if many pages are listed. In the Document Manager, find the version and click Manage restrictions (padlock icon).
-
If you don't have Can edit pages for the version, ask someone who manages the version's restrictions to give it to you. See Manage Restrictions.
-
-
For pages that are still listed, click a page title to open the page in a new tab.
-
On the page, remove the restrictions that stop you from editing, or ask the page owner or a space admin to give you edit rights.
-
Back in the dialog, click Check again.
-
The list updates. When no pages are left, the message disappears and you can continue.
-
To go back to the dialog without fixing anything, click Back (or the arrow next to the title). Your entries in the dialog are kept.
Share the list with someone who can fix it
If you can't change the restrictions yourself, click Download page list. You get a CSV file with the title and URL of each page, which you can send to a space admin or the page owners.
Good to know
-
Check again re-checks only the pages in the list. If someone restricts another page while the dialog is open, close and reopen the dialog to check that page too.
-
If Scroll Content Manager couldn't load the permissions of a page, that page is listed too. Click Check again to retry.
-
Saved versions are often read-only. To publish a read-only version, you need Can edit pages for that version.
Prevention Tips
Before you save, publish, or translate a version, make sure you have edit rights for all pages in the version.
