Attach Files to a Request

Add screenshots, logs, or documents to a new request or to a reply, and download what your support team sends back.

You can attach files in both places. Files stay in your browser until you send them, so if you remove one before you click Submit request or Send, nothing is uploaded.

Attach Files to a New Request

  1. On the request form, find the attachment field, marked Drop file here to attach.

  2. Drag files onto the field, or click it to browse. The field also responds to Enter and Space when it has focus.

  3. Check the list of queued files. Each one has a remove button if you change your mind.

  4. Click Submit request. The widget uploads the files as part of sending the request.

If an upload fails, the form stays open with everything you typed, so you can try again.

Attach Files to a Reply

  1. Open the request and click in the comment box.

  2. Click Add attachments, the plus button on the toolbar, and choose your files.

  3. Check the thumbnails above the box. Images show a preview; other files show a document icon.

  4. Click Send. A reply can be files only, with no text.

Size and Type Limits

Limit

Value

Largest single file

About 4 MB

Number of files per request or reply

No fixed limit, but see the note below

File types

Images, PDF, text, Microsoft Office, OpenDocument, and common archives

If a file is over the limit, the widget leaves it out and names it in a message, for example screenshot.png exceeds the ~4 MB file size limit and was not added. The widget still adds any other files you picked.

Each file counts separately against the limit on how often you can send. Attaching nine files at once, plus the request itself, reaches the limit of ten in a minute. If that happens, wait a minute and send the rest.

Download an Attachment

  • In Request details, click the file name to download it.

  • In a reply from your support team, click the file link in the message.

  • Click an image inside a message to open it full screen, with buttons to download or close it.

Downloads go through the help center instead of coming directly from Jira, so they only work while you are signed in and only for requests you have access to.
