Scroll Viewport 2.19.4
November 2021
We're pleased to announce the release of Scroll Viewport 2.19.4, which is a bug fix and improvement release.
In this release we fix a problem with Children Display macro inside excerpts that lead to slow or no page loads and respond to a known vulnerability with Unicode directional formatting characters.
Exposing Unicode directional formatting characters as a vulnerability response
In this release we respond to a Unicode directionality formatting characters vulnerability (published in November as the Common Vulnerability Exposure NVD - CVE-2021-42574). This vulnerability allows anyone to misuse directionality formatting characters (intended to allow a combination of languages that are written and read from right to left and from left to right), to obfuscate real semantics of source code.
As a response, the Scroll Viewport team chose to always expose directionality formatting characters that are encountered on a page rendered through Scroll Viewport. In instances where you are making deliberate and legitimate use of directionality formatting characters, you might want to hide the warnings on their Scroll Viewport site in all or specific contexts.
