Instead of copying and pasting the same content across multiple pages, Confluence gives you three ways to maintain a single source and reuse it wherever you need it.
All three are supported in Scroll Sites.
Include Content macro
Embeds the full content of another page inline
Excerpt and Insert Excerpt macros
Marks a portion of a page for reuse; pull it in elsewhere with Insert Excerpt
Synced Block
A block you create once and copy to other pages; edits to the source flow to all copies
Best for
Reusing entire pages or large sections
Best for
Reusing specific blocks without exposing the whole source page
Best for
Reusing and managing self-contained blocks across many pages and also Jira work items.
You can transfor existing content into synced blocks.
Include Content Macro
The Include Content macro displays the full contents of another Confluence page inline. To add it:
-
While editing, type
/includeand select Include Content from the list. -
Search for and select the page you want to include.
-
To include a page from another space, prefix the title with the space key and a colon — for example,
DOC:My page name.
If you want to include only part of a page rather than the whole thing, use the Excerpt macros instead.

Excerpt and Insert Excerpt Macros
Use the Excerpt macro to mark a section of a source page for reuse, then pull that section into other pages using the Insert Excerpt macro. You can add multiple named excerpts to a single page, effectively turning it into a content library.
On the source page — add the Excerpt macro:
-
While editing, type
/excerptand select Excerpt. -
Give the excerpt a name so you can reference it specifically later.
-
Optionally check Hide excerpt on this page to keep the source page clean — the content still renders on any page that includes it.
-
Add your content inside the macro placeholder.
On the target page — add the Insert Excerpt macro:
-
Type
/insert excerptand select Insert Excerpt. -
Select the source page and, if it has multiple excerpts, the specific excerpt name.
Edits to the source excerpt automatically appear everywhere it's included. Learn more: Insert the Excerpt macro
Synced Blocks
A synced block is a piece of content you create once in Confluence and copy to other pages. Unlike Include Content or Excerpt, a synced block is view-only at every destination — it can only be edited at its source.
Create a synced block on the source page:
-
While editing, type
/syncand select Create synced block, or select + in the toolbar. -
Add your content inside the block. Synced blocks support text, layouts, tables, images, panels, and most other Confluence editor elements.
You can also turn existing content into a synced block: select the content, open the block menu (drag handle on the left), and select Sync block.
Copy the block to another page:
-
Select the synced block to reveal the floating toolbar.
-
Select Copy synced block.
-
Paste it into any other Confluence page, live doc, or Jira work item.
Edits to the source flow to all copies in near real time. To see everywhere a block is used, select it and choose Synced locations.

Synced Blocks and Variants
Synced blocks inherit the variant scope of the page where the source block was created — not the page where the copy is placed. If the source block lives on a Mac-only page, copies of that block will only render in the Mac variant in Scroll Sites, even if the copy sits on an ALL-variants page outside any Conditional Content macro.
This means you don't need to wrap a synced block in a Conditional Content macro to make it variant-aware — placing the source on a variant-specific page is sufficient.

When a synced block is updated, only the source page appears as an updated page in the Site update screen — not all the pages that include the block, even though they will get updated in the site as well.
Include Content From Outside Your Content Sources
By default, Scroll Sites only renders included content if the source page is part of your site's content sources. If your reuse library lives in a separate Confluence space, enable Display all included content:
-
From My Sites, click your site.
-
Go to Site Settings > Content.
-
Toggle on Display all included content.
-
Click Publish changes or Save changes.
This setting applies to Include Content, Insert Excerpt, and Synced Blocks. Learn more: Allow to Display Content From Any Includes
Macro Compatibility
Not all macros render correctly when placed inside a Synced Block or Excerpt. See Supported Macros and Features (Help Center Theme) for the full compatibility list.
