Why Does My Help Center Article Content Not Use The Whole Page Width?

You or your users might find that your help center articles contain a lot of vertical white space between the left sidebar navigation and the table of content (if it’s enabled). This is especially visible when your site is accessed from a very wide screen.

This white space and the limited width that text takes up in your help center article are part of an intentional design:

We intentionally limit the content width in article pages to keep characters per line to a maximum, which is a recommended best practice to ensure optimal readability.

This limitation only applies to normal text, as other content types have different width requirements. Thus:

  • Tables are by default displayed wider than normal text in order to accommodate for many columns.

  • You can optionally adjust the width of tables, images and β€˜page layouts’ further using the Confluence editor’s width adjusting options for those elements. Read more on Resize and Align Images and Resize Tables .
