Learn how to use elements in your landing page to direct users to external locations.
You can use elements in your portal page or on your content source pages to direct your users to URLs outside of your Scroll site.
When users click on these elements, they get redirected to these external location. This is handy if you want to promote content from e.g. your website or let users install your app from a prominent location in your site.
1. Pick An Element In Your Site
These are examples of elements in your site that you can use to link to external locations:
-
In the portal page: The content source tiles
-
In the content source page: The cards in your featured pages section
-
In the content source page: The tiles or page links in your article overview
Choose one of these elements and note down the URL it’s linking to currently. In the next step, we’ll override this URL with a redirect.
Alternatively, if the element doesn’t exist, create an empty Confluence page or empty Confluence space and add it to your site. We’ll use the element that gets created (e.g. tile or card) only as a placeholder, so for now don’t worry that the element is leading to empty content in your site.
2. Set Up A Redirect To the Desired Location
With the URL that you just noted down (e.g. help.example.com/empty-space/), we will now create a simple redirect:
-
From the My Sites screen, click the card that has your site’s name.
-
From the left sidebar, click Site Settings > Redirects.
-
Click Add new redirect. The Add redirect dialog opens.
-
For the Redirect from field, paste your copied URL leaving out the subdomain part (e.g. for
help.example.com/empty-space/enter only/empty-space/). -
For the Redirect to field, enter the external URL you want to link to (e.g.
https://mysite.com). -
Optional: In the Notes field, add a comment to explain what the redirect is for, so you remember or others in your team understand why it’s there.
-
Under Redirect type choose permanent.
-
Click Add. You are taken back to the list of existing redirects.
-
Click Publish changes in the top right of the settings.
When viewing your site and clicking on the selected element, you are now being taken to the external location.
