Define Pinned, News and Call-to-Action Pages

Use page labels to feature certain articles on top of the content source pages in your help center.

The labeled pages will stand out over the rest of your articles and draw readers' attention to them in dedicated ‘News’ and ‘Pinned Pages’ sections or as a call-to-action button.

Applying the Label(s)

To feature or highlight articles in your content source page(s):

  1. Go to any Confluence page that is part of your Scroll site.

  2. Choose one of the labels from the table below and add it to the page. Learn how to add labels to Confluence pages.

  3. Go to Site Settings > Look and feel > Customize theme. The theme configurator opens.

  4. In the theme configurator, select the tab Pages.

  5. In the Pages tab, scroll down to the section Content Source Page

    1. If you want to use the ‘News section’ label, enable the toggle for News section. You can optionally set a heading of your choice for this section in the News heading field.

    2. If you want to use the ‘Pinned Pages’ label, enable the toggle for Pinned pages section. You can optionally set a heading of your choice for this section in the Pinned pages heading field.

    3. If you want to use the ‘Cta’ (Call to action) label, you can optionally set a title of your choice for this button in the Call to action button label field.

  6. Click Close

  7. From the Site settings screen, click Publish changes or Save changes in the top right.

With your next site update, the labeled page(s) will show up prominently on top of the corresponding content source page in a dedicated section.

Behavior Of the Labels

Learn what each of the available labels will do in the table below, so you can choose the right label(s) for your content.

Label

What does it do?

Which content source page layout type supports the label?

scroll-help-center-pinned-page

A page with this label displays on top of the Content Source page right below the banner in a section with a title of your choice.

The section can feature up to three pages and presents them in a row of cards.

The page title from Confluence will show as the title of the card and the first lines of text of the page will show as the description right below.

To customize the description text, add an excerpt macro on the page and insert your desired description in the macro body.

To sort the pinned pages, use the labels with a number appended to them:

  • scroll-help-center-pinned-page-1

  • scroll-help-center-pinned-page-2

  • scroll-help-center-pinned-page-3

  • Hero Layout

  • Detail Layout

scroll-help-center-cta-page

A page with this label displays as a call-to-action button right below the description of the content source on the Content Source page. Clicking the button will open the labeled page.

A maximum of one page per content source can show up as a call to action button.

The value set in the theme configurator under Pages > Content source page > Call to action button label will show as the title of the button. If empty, the title of the labeled Confluence page is used.

  • Detail Layout

scroll-help-center-news-page

A page with this label will serve as the news source. This means: the first three children of the labeled page are displayed, right below the banner in a section with a title of your choice.

The section can feature up to three pages and presents them in a list of three links.

The page title from Confluence will show as the link text.

Please note, the labeled page itself won’t show up. For any pages to show up, please label a page that has at least one child page.

Use Cases

Use the respective labels to bring attention to certain articles of your help center.

Here are some examples of how you might leverage the labels:

  • scroll-help-center-pinned-page: Pin or highlight the most frequently searched for or most important articles from your help center on top of the content source page, so users don’t have to go search for them.

  • scroll-help-center-news-page: Show your latest release notes or other product updates prominently on top of the content source page, so users can always see the latest news.

  • scroll-help-center-cta-page: Prompt users with a ‘Get Started’ button to start exploring the help center content from a dedicated ‘Introduction’ or ‘Get Started’ article.
