How To Hide Sections of Articles in Viewport
Prevent internal knowledge or comments from showing on the articles in your Viewport site.
When you add a space or Scroll Document from Confluence to your Viewport site, we recommend you keep that content source in Confluence clear of any private knowledge or information that should not be shown in your help center.
Separating internal and external content in such a clear way is not always possible or practical. Often internal users (e.g professional services or customer success teams) also consume the help articles, but would benefit from seeing additional private information and comments on those same pages (e.g. known issues, planned improvements or further links).
In this How-To article you will learn how you can structure your content in such a way that users who access a page via the Viewport site, see a more limited version of your content, while those users who access the page in Confluence see an enhanced version of the content.
Install the Scroll Extension app
The first step is to install our Scroll Extension app. You can get the app for free from the Atlassian Marketplace.
Insert the Scroll Ignore or Scroll Ignore Inline macro
Using the Scroll Ignore or Scroll Ignore Inline macro, you can hide sections of content within a page from being shown on your Viewport site.
The difference in how these macros work is that a line break is inserted when the Scroll Ignore macro is used, and no line break is inserted by the Scroll Ignore Inline macro. The inline macro is practical when you want your hidden content to be part of a sentence or paragraph.
To hide content on a page:
Navigate to a page that is part of your Viewport site.
Click Edit (pencil icon) on the top right of the page. The Confluence editor will open.
Place your cursor at the position where you would like to add the hidden content. Type '/' (slash command) and search for Scroll Ignore or Scroll Ignore Inline macro. Press enter.
An Edit 'Scroll Ignore' macro dialog pops up. You can leave the checkboxes as they are. Click Save.
Insert your content in the macro. For the Ignore Inline macro: Use the text box in the dialog. For the Ignore macro: Use the macro container that is added to your page.
Click Publish.
The content will still be displayed in Confluence, just with a grey background (to distinguish it from non hidden content).
Please note that the Scroll Ignore Inline macro does not support rich text content and only uses plain text formatting. This is because rich text can also include non-inline content.
You can also use the macro with our apps Scroll PDF Exporter, Scroll HTML Exporter and Scroll Word Exporter.
