Missing Scroll Page ID

This article explains how to find pages that are missing a Scroll Page ID and how to add one.

Symptom

You ran a health check and saw the following warning:

Following pages have no scrollPageIds assigned...

Possible Causes

A Scroll Page ID is how Scroll Documents keeps track of which pages in different versions or languages correspond to each other. If a page has been saved into several versions, all of these pages will share the same Scroll Page ID which means they are in the same Page Group. This is how Scroll Documents knows they are related and should link to each other when you use features like the version or language picker. For more information, see: Assign Scroll Page IDs and Manage Page Groups

You'll most likely find a missing Scroll Page ID on a page that was:

  • Created outside of the document and then moved or copied into it.

  • Created in the Working version using the Confluence Create button instead of the Organize page tree.

  • Created in an already saved version using the Confluence Create button instead of the Organize page tree.

  • Your document is older (created with Scroll Documents 2.5.0 or earlier).

If a page was created with the Confluence Create button within the page tree of the Working version, it will automatically get a Scroll Page ID the next time you save a new version of the document.

Troubleshooting

To troubleshoot this, follow the steps below:

  1. Run a health check (if you haven't already).

    1. From the Document Manager, click More document actions (•••)

    2. Select Perform health check.

    3. Select the "Scroll Page IDs exist and are unique within the document" check box. You can leave the other checks unselected.

    4. Click Check to run the health check.

      • If your document contains any pages without a Scroll Page ID, they'll be listed under "Following pages have no scrollPageIds assigned..."

  2. Inspect the affected pages.

    1. Go back to the Document Manager and click More document actions (•••)

    2. Select Advanced options > Manage page groups.

    3. In the Manage page groups dialog, check the column titled "Pages without a group."

      • If you find the listed pages here, you need to assign them to a Page Group. This will give them a Scroll Page ID.

There are two ways to give a page a Scroll Page ID:

  • Manually, we recommend this method if:

    • There are several versions or translations of the pages.

    • If you want to be sure the pages ends up the same Page Groups as other versions and translations of this page.

If you have a missing Scroll Page ID in the Working version and plan to create a version or translation, you can safely ignore the health check warning. The issue will be resolved automatically the next time you save a new version or translation as the page then will get a Scroll Page ID.

  • Auto-Group, we recommend this method if:

    • The pages has no other versions or translations.

Fix pages without a group with Auto-Group

If the listed pages are new pages which has no versions or translations of it, the easiest way to fix it, is by clicking Auto-Group.

You can also use this method if the affected pages has existing versions and translations. Scroll Documents will attempt to match the page by its title to an existing Page Group.

However, if there is a variation in the page title (for example, a typo or a slight change), Scroll Documents may not be able to find a match and will add the page to a new Page Group instead.

In order to assign a Scroll Page ID via Auto-Group, follow these steps:

Open the Page group manager.

  1. From the Document Manager, click More document actions (•••).

  2. Select Manage page groups.

  3. Find the unassigned pages.

    1. Pages without a Scroll Page ID are listed in the "Pages without a group" section on the left side of the dialog.

  4. Click Auto-Group.

    1. The system will automatically assign these pages to new Page Groups, giving them a Scroll Page ID.

If the Auto-Group did not fix the problem you need to assign the Page Groups manually. Learn more about this in the section below.

Fix pages without a group manually

Sometimes, Scroll Documents' algorithm can't determine which Page Group a page belongs to. When this happens, you may need to manually assign the page to a group.

You might need to:

  • Create a new Page Group.

  • Add the page to an existing Page Group.

Create a new Page Group

If a page does not belong to any existing groups, you can create a new one manually:

  1. Drag the page page from the “Pages without a group” column and drop it in any one of the two columns.

  2. You can repeat the process for other pages by clearing out the columns on the right by clicking X in the page selection drop down on top of the column.

Changes are automatically saved when you drop a page into one of the columns.

Add page to an existing Page Group

If a page should belong to an existing group, follow these steps:

  1. Load the page group.

    1. Use the page picker in one of the columns and search for an existing page in the group. This will load the group into the view.

  2. Drag the page into the group.

    1. Find the page you want to move in the other column.

    2. Drag the page from the to its corresponding cell in the loaded page group within the other column.
